Texture Discrimination: Black Self-Hate

Blue Ivy Carter and Cree Hardrict are two beautiful black children that have been the subject of hate based slander because of their natural hair. Firstly, I’m beyond upset that more black people are willing to talk about children’s hair than Ferguson. We keep talking about kids and not Ferguson. Secondly, I am heartbroken because we instill black inferiority into our children at an early age.Naturals with curlier, less kinky hair have always been favored. The closer to white, the more beautiful you are considered. We as a community need to realize that we still eat the lies that we are fed. We still consumes inferiority. We have internalized the “white is right” ideology.
The BLACK (Whack) entertainment network thought it would be funny to joke about Blue Ivy’s natural hair.  Also, Tia Mowry Hardtrict’s son, Cree has also been the center of hate filled, anti-black commentary because of his natural hair.
North West is absolutely beautiful. I am in no way attacking or critiquing her. I’m stating a fact. I never hear anyone say anything negative about the way her hair is styled. Her hair texture is not kinky at all. Realize what we’re doing here. We’ve internalized inferiority. We’ve swallowed eurocentric beauty.
Instead of BET making lame jokes about kinky hair, maybe BET should continue to talk about racism and the state of black livelihood.
I am proud of my natural, kinky texture! We can’t make real change as a community because we are stuck on the white is right agenda. Colorism is real. We need to unify. A house divided can not stand. Do Better.
When you decide to make a negative comment about someone’s child, just remember that unarmed black people are still being murdered. We’ve got to value black life in the same way that we expect everyone else too.
As a child, I was told that my hair was too kinky, too thick. It took me Years to get to a place where I appreciated my natural hair.  All healthy black hair is good hair. We have way to much power to allow ignorance to control and oppress us.
Here are a few pictures of my natural hair/ natural styles. (Fro regularly & Fro blown out/ Marley Bun, Marley Twists, and Boxbraids)

Long post short, kinky, nappy textures are just as beautiful and important as curlier, less kinky textures. Also, we need to recognize the indoctrination and socialization that is allowing us to be oppressed and suppressed.  We need to be unified.
Let me see pictures of your natural hair! What are your thoughts on the topic?
Until next time,
