Hit or Miss: Dressing Room Chronicles

Hey everyone! Hope you all are well rested from the weekend! I stopped by H&M and Forever 21 to see if there were any pieces that I would like. While online shopping is convenient, I strongly prefer trying clothes on in person. Trying on clothes can be a disheartening experience for anyone no matter what size you are. Yet I believe the trauma is magnified when your body is already deemed ugly and unattractive. I find myself in love with pieces in the main line that don’t come in plus size.  Even the location of the plus size section is uninviting! Almost always, I find myself in the back of the store, in a drab, under decorated area that has been sectioned off for the plus size clothing. The clothes are never styled on mannequins like the items in the main section. The entire experience can be one filled with tones of ostracism and shame.

H&M

Hits- I enjoyed the letterman jacket, body con/midi skirt, and harem pants for fall. The lighting in the dressing room was awkward but the clothes were nice. The plus size section in the Opry Mills store location is horrid. No mannequins, just clothes hanging on racks.

Forever21

I went to forever 21 on three separate occasions. They styles are fresh. The pieces have potential. The plus size section is decorated nicely. Still, I am disappointed. I felt like a whale in the dressing room! Some of the dresses were extremely short and unforgiving. The joggers were a 3x and fit like leggings! I left the store three times feeling like crap. The crop top, skater skirt and two of the dresses were ok but my overall experience was horrendous! Forever 21 sizes in junior plus but markets to all plus size women. We aren’t all junior plus! I hate it.

Shopping isn’t always fun. It’s can be extremely emotional when nothing in the store flatters you! Definitely a hit or miss experience but I’d say it was more of a miss than a hit.
Tell me about your dressing room horror stories!
Until next time,
