Hey Peeps, Hope your summer is going well! As of June 16th, my blog is officially a year old!! Yay! I know that I haven’t posted as much as I want to but I am proud of my progress. My main goal was to inspire people to be the best versions of themselves. My next goal was to promote body positivity and fashion on a budget. Being that my interests expand outside of the realm of fashion, I’ve decided to enhance my blogging content. I’m an young adult, African American women who was born in the lower end of the socioeconomic ladder. Hopefully, My open and honest discussion of my experiences both past and present might help someone else who is struggling. Also, as a person with a degree in Sociology, I’d like to analyze current events as well. Music and entertainment are other areas that I’d like to involve in this space. For a long time, I felt disconnected from my blog. This disconnect was partly due to my desire to be like the other bloggers. They do a great job but I can’t be like them. I want to add something new and refreshing to the blogging world. I have to see myself in the blog before I can expect others to relate to me. As my 23rd birthday approaches, I’m experiencing an array of emotions, the most predominant one at the moment is a feeling of growth. Self awareness, attitude, confidence, communication, understanding, love generosity and ambition are areas that I plan to develop. I can’t grow if I am fearful of change. 23 should be the year that places me closer to the woman that I desire to be.
Flower Child
When I think of growth, I think of blooming flowers. The flower which began as a mere seed, transforms into something magnificent with careful attention to that flower’s needs. Like the flower,I hope to be magnificent!
Today I met Maribel and her friend Brittany at a place in downtown Nashville called The Tavern. I wore this $12 dollar dress form Ross ( size 2x) The compliments were rolling in all day! I paired it with this cute hat from Cato’s and my wristlet from Charming Charlie’s. My shows were from KMart. They were 12 bucks as well!
No one knew that my dress malfunctioned. The straps were extremely loose, leaving the dress shapeless. Wig caps come in handy! Using a wig cap, I tied the straps together to create a more feminine look.
After we dined at The Tavern, we headed to Centinnial Park for a concert. I was introduced to a up and coming group called The Hunming House! In addition to that, we met a lady that makes adorable earrings. I’ll do a post on her later.
Later in the evening, we headed to Elm Hill marina and listened to a live band!
Maribel and I always have an awesome time together! It’s never a dull moment when we are out. We’ve been friends since the 6th grade. I appreciate having a friend that grows with me. College, work, and life itself never weakened our bond. Hopefully we’ll have many more years to grow together! We are both June babies and budding flowers! Can’t wait to see how we change the world! Lastly, don’t forget that you can look absolutely Sickening on a budget. Name brands aren’t everything. You can look better that someone wearing designer clothing in a 2 dollar dress from goodwill! Confidence is key.
Tell me about your weekend? Did you do anything fun?
Until next time
-Nora
