Taking Chances: 2017

Happy New Year Everyone! I am happy to be able to blog again. I hope you all are enjoy 2017 so far.  While 2016 was inarguably a difficult year, to put modestly, I wanted to celebrate the end with a fun celebration. Last year, I participated in My Drink On’s New Year’s Eve limo bus ride. My friends and I decided to do the event again this year. So much has happened this year and part of me wanted to just ring in the New Year with wine and a onesie. Instead, I got dolled up with my friends and bar crawled. Dressing up and stepping out on the town has a way of uplifting my spirits.
Before going out, I had to find the perfect outfit to wear. Initially, I was going to wear the black velvet dress that I purchased for the Christmas Party. I woke up in the mood to dawn something new to ring in 2017. Honestly, I was not in the mood to blow money. I ventured to the Opry Mills Mall to find something glamorous yet inexpensive to wear for the evening.

I headed to Charlotte Russe to see what I could find for the event. Here’s what I tried on:

It was a rainy day and I dressed down. I don’t dress to impress daily. Most of the time I am relaxed. Peep any new hair style! I love these red rodded crochet faux locs.

This velvet romper looked awesome on the rack but rough on my body. I had high hopes. I am 24 years young. I don’t want to look like a grandma.

I didn’t see anything that caught my eye at Charlotte Russe so I headed to Forever 21 to see what I could find. Here is what I tried:

I was really hoping to wear a cute romper because a romper would be appropriate for the rain and cold. Yet again, this romper was too tight. I didn’t go to Torrid because I wasn’t looking to spend 60+ dollars on a piece.

As I was about to leave the mall, I decided to give Charlotte Russe one more chance. I went back to the store and scoured the racks. I stumbled upon this pink velvet dress and I fell in love! It was $36.99. Here’s how I styled it:

I rocked this dress with my pink vest and thigh high boots from Cato Fashions. The My jewelry is from Torrid.
Here are more photos from our fun night.
Erika showed out!! Doesn’t she look great! Friends that slay together stay together!

Instead of doing a vision board, I will list several of my goals for 2017 here.

  1. Get to know my siblings
My biological father passed away in October. I dealt with so many emotions, mainly anger and sadness as a result. While I didn’t get to know my father, I would like to know my siblings. I want to develop a stronger relationship with them.
    2.  Develop my brand
I want to increase my audience, post more consistently, and add vlogs to Youtube.
    3. Go back to school
I need to take the next step in my education. I’m still deciding on majors. I need to figure out my financial plan. If I don’t go back this year, I at least want to figure out what field I want to go into.
  4. Increase my credit score
I want to move out this year. I want to do big things in life. I am actively working on bettering my credit.
5. Get my house in order
This is a spiritual reference but my body is my house. I live in it. I want to make sure that I am mentally, spiritual and physically sound. I took the first step today by going to a doctor. I want to work on my weight and what I eat. My mom has diabetes, and hypertension. I am predisposed to these diseases. I have experienced how they have taken control of her life. I want to take control of my life before I suffer from these diseases.
6. Be open to love
My love life has been a sack of crap. I am ready to date.
7. Sing
Singing brings peace to my life. I need to join a choir or make videos, something. I miss singing.
8. Make more memories.
I just want to live and enjoy my friends/family. Life is short. I want to take trips, spend late nights talking and bonding. Just live.
9.
Release pain. Forgiveness keeps you alive.
I don’t want to take anger and pain from past relationships into this new year. I want to live without restrictions. Forgive to live.
What are some of your goals for 2017?
Drop them in the comment section. I can’t want to hear from you all!
Until next time,
-Nora
